Sheriff Candidate Files Second Suit Against County

Los Alamos resident Greg White has filed another suit against Los Alamos County Council, this time adding County Manager Harry Burgess, Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone, County Attorney Alvin Leaphart and Assistant County Attorney Katie Thwaits to the list of defendants.

A previous petition for writ of prohibition filed by White last October in the Supreme Court was denied. That petition asked the Court to prohibit the Council from “neutering” Sheriff Marco Lucero and stop the Council from harassing the Sheriff Read More

Los Alamos County again made the Forbes annual list of the top 10 richest counties in America for 2017. This year Los Alamos has a reported median household income of $107,126 and comes in at number 6 on the list.

New Mexico is one of the poorest states in the Union, which makes Los Alamos County stand out. The affluent Los Alamos County makes it on the list thanks to Los Alamos National Laboratory, employing 10,500 of the 18,147 residents.

Study Names Los Alamos County A Top Place To Get Mortgages In New Mexico

Council Meeting Focusing On Strategic Plan Jan. 23

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Council has set an agenda item for its upcoming Council session Tuesday, Jan. 23 to discuss an update to its Strategic Plan. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.

The strategic plan was first adopted in 2011 and goals are reviewed and updated annually by the Council to provide direction to the staff, who then develop Management Action Plans (MAPs) to achieve the goals.

Los Alamos County Administration Offices are closed Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr holiday. 

Other facilities may be closed or have shortened hours of operation.

LAPD: Flashing Red Light Stop Signs On School Buses Mean Motorists Must Stop

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department has recently received several complaints from Los Alamos Public School’s Transportation Division and parents, about motorist running the flashing red-light stop signs attached to the school buses.

LAPD would like to remind all motorist of New Mexico State Statute (66-7-347) and Los Alamos County Ordinance (38-290) that state all motorists traveling either direction approaching a bus with its flashing red lights activated, must come to a complete stop at least 10 feet prior to the bus.
