Los Alamos Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone has released crime statistics for the third quarter of 2016, which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department.
Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. Los Alamos Police Host Drug Take Back Day Saturday

The Los Alamos Police Department will be hosting its bi-annual Drug Take Back Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 22 at the following locations:
- Smith’s parking lot: 751 Trinity Dr.; and
- White Rock Visitor Center: 115 State Route # 4.
This drug diversion program is a part of a national initiative by the DEA. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Girrens: What’s So Fun
By STEVEN GIRRENS During the past months I’ve been asked, why are you running again Girrens? Haven’t you had enough? What’s so fun about being a Councilor anyway?
Believe me there have been several times when I asked myself the “what’s so fun” question, particularly while driving home to White Rock after a Council meeting around 10 p.m. on a cold, snowy winter night.
I played back the tapes of Council events over the past three years and 9 months asking myself what was fun.
