Los Alamos County Community Services Issues Call For Artists: Public Art Opportunity For Lion Sculpture

The Los Alamos Art in Public Places Board (APPB) is seeking qualifications from artists for an exciting public art opportunity: a sculpture of an African male lion to be installed at the center of a newly designed area surrounded by the relocated Police Memorial Wall, just outside the main entrance of the Los Alamos Police Station. This sculpture will serve as a bold visual enhancement to the memorial site, but is not a memorial itself.

Los Alamos County Second Quarter Crime Statistics Reflect 33 Percent Reduction From First Two Quarters Of 2024 Through June 2025

Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone on Tuesday, July 8, released crime statistics through the second quarter of 2025, which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD).

Through the first two quarters of 2025, a total of 89 crimes have been reported to police, including 27 crimes against persons, 57 crimes against property, and 5 crimes against society.

By comparison, 133 crimes were reported to the police in the first two quarters of 2024, including 30 crimes against persons, 84 crimes against property, and 19 Read More

51st Annual Los Alamos Triathlon: A Challenging Race At 7,400 Ft. Elevation, July 19

The 51st Annual Los Alamos Triathlon will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, beginning at 7:30 AM. Known as one of the oldest continuously running triathlons, this event offers both seasoned and beginner athletes the opportunity to challenge themselves in a unique and scenic setting at an elevation of 7,400 ft.

County Golf Course Review: July Update For 2025 Season

Los Alamos County staff have been monitoring the golf course and, as published, performed a review of the course on Monday, July 7 to provide better clarity and to ensure optimal conditions for play.

The updated schedule below reflects changes in course availability and ongoing preparations.

  • Front nine and chipping green will open July 18, 19, and 20, with some areas not available for play.

White Rock Family Films – Mufasa: The Lion King July 12

Every second Saturday of the month, the White Rock Branch Library is showing a family-friendly film. This Saturday, July 12, families are invited to participate in crafts, eat popcorn and watch Mufasa: The Lion King.

Arrive at the library at 2 p.m. with the whole family to get started on a movie-themed craft. The movie runs 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the meeting room.

Aquatic Center Closing 8am-3pm July 29 For Training

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Aquatic Center’s Olympic Pool and Therapy Pool will be temporarily closed, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, for a scheduled in-service training.

During this time, Aquatic Center staff and community members will receive training on the new Colorado Timing System, which will be used for hosting swim meets and other timed events.

The Leisure Lagoon will remain open during normal hours on July 29.

The Aquatic Center’s Olympic Pool and Therapy Pool will reopen and resume normal operations after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29.
