LAFD Invites Community To Badge Ceremony July 19

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Fire Department will host a promotional Badge Pinning Ceremony, 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, in Fire Station 3 at 129 N.M. 4 in White Rock.

Fire Chief Wendy Servey will announce several promotions within the department, including new Battalion Chiefs, Captains, and Driver Engineers.

The event is open to the public.

Helicopter Transporting Bucket Full Of Water Heads Back To Laguna Wildfire After Refueling At Los Alamos Airport

A firefighting helicopter with a bucket full of water heads back to the Laguna Wildfire today after refueling at the Los Alamos Airport. Acting Los Alamos County Fire Chief Wendy Servey explained that the helicopter is staying at the Los Alamos Airport to provide air support for the Laguna Wildfire. The Art in Public Places Board (APPB) invites the community to participate in a follow-up input survey for the proposed Justice Center Wall art project by local artist J Muzacz.

This large-scale, glass-tiled mosaic is planned for the south-facing wall of the Justice Center, adjacent to Trinity Drive. With a proposed budget of $55,000, the project aims to enhance the south-facing wall of the Justice Center with a vibrant and locally inspired piece of public art that showcases regional flora and fauna.

Bicyclist Injured In Vehicle Crash At Diamond & Orange

LAPD News:

Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) officers, along with personnel from the Los Alamos Fire Department, responded at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, to a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist near the intersection of Diamond Drive and Orange Street.

Upon arrival, emergency responders identified a 14-year-old male bicyclist who had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to Los Alamos Medical Center for further medical care. An update on the juvenile’s condition is not currently available. Read More

Los Alamos County Animal Control Urges Caution As Rattlesnake Activity Increases Around Community

Los Alamos County Animal Control officials urge residents to use caution when outdoors, as seasonal climate conditions and recent sightings indicate an increase in rattlesnake activity.

“Rattlesnakes play an important role in the local ecosystem but can pose a danger when startled or provoked,” Animal Control Supervisor Theresa Phelan said. “Awareness and simple precautions can go a long way in preventing incidents.”
