Aquatic Center Main Pool Closed For Power Outage Issues

Due to issues caused by this afternoon’s power outage, the Aquatic Center’s main pool will be closed for the remainder of the week.
The Therapy Pool and the Leisure Lagoon are open for the remainder of today, July 22.
Additionally, for the remainder of the week:

Power Restored To Western Area After Lightning Strike
Power has been restored to the Western Area after a lightning-related incident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. today. Standby electric linemen from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities responded to the power outage and by 2 p.m. had restored the electric power.
If power is still out in individual homes, Deputy Utility Manager – Electric Distribution Stephen Marez suggested that residents check their breaker switches before calling to report an outage. Lightning storms can often cause surges that trigger the breaker.

Los Alamos Golf Course Update On Opening Status

The Los Alamos County Golf Course was opened for play on the front nine this past week, and this morning, July 22, staff evaluated the course for any problem areas and the overall status of the course for additional play.
While staff confirmed that the front nine is still good for play, and thanked the golfing community for taking care of the course and filling in their divots, they feel that it is also beneficial for the course to rest for a few days between open days.
Therefore, the Los Alamos County Golf Course will have the schedule as follows:

Community Suicide Prevention Course To Debut In Los Alamos Beginning In August
In response to New Mexico’s persistently high suicide rate, among the top five in the nation, Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) has developed a new suicide prevention course: ABC – Ask, Be Present, Connect.
The program debuts this August in Los Alamos and is free and open to the public.
“The ABC program goes beyond crisis intervention,” said Curriculum Creator Marvel Harrison, PhD. “It includes upstream prevention by building a culture where it’s safe to ask someone if they’re thinking about suicide. Talking about suicide saves lives.”
