Save A Life & Restart A Heart – Learn CPR For FREE
LAFD News:
Every person in Los Alamos will have the chance to learn how to be a hero by attending the New Mexico Heart Institute’s 6th annual Project Heart Start event Saturday June 25.
The free event will teach Los Alamos families a “new” form of CPR called Compression‐Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (COCPR).
Sudden cardiac arrest kills more than 400,000 people in the U.S. every year, and nearly 9,000 of these cases happen in children under the age of 18. Many of these deaths could have been prevented if those close by had been aware of and taken a few simple, lifesaving steps.

Letter To The Editor: Who Is Really To Blame When A Business Closes?
By DAREN SAVAGELos Alamos
Regarding Mr. Spencer’s letter to the editor (How About A Charter Amendment To Require That Councilors Do Your Laundry), it may be a good reminder that a self-serve laundry is a privately-owned business, not a county-run facility. As with every business, they rely on their customers for financial support.
Running a business is a two-way street. The business owner relies on their private enterprise for their income as much as the customers rely on the business for their services. If the LA residents who rely on the self-serve laundry to wash clothes don’t

Sheehey: Why I’m Running For Re-Election To Council
By Councilor PETE SHEEHEYWhen I knocked on doors four years ago and asked people what they wanted from county government, they told me to go ahead with the most important investments for our future, but don’t spend too much, and make sure we get good value for taxpayers’ dollars. That’s what I have worked for.
I am focused as a Councilor on working toward a better future for this town, based upon listening to the community. A growing and diversified local economy will make this a better place for all of us, and for the Lab to attract good people and their Read More

Letter To The Editor: Councilors And Candidates, Take Notice … There Are Many Who Care … Do You?
By ELLEN WALTONThank you, Khalil Spencer, (letter) for speaking out for those who need basic services in this town.
Why are these services disappearing? As I watched those doing their laundry on the last days that our only self-serve laundry was open, I also wondered how people could stay in this town and work without such necessities. I could imagine myself in that position because I also relied on self-service laundry for many, many years. A neighborhood without a laundry facility was uninhabitable for me.
I find that in our pursuit for a grocery store with Read More

Phone Scam Reported In Los Alamos
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County has received complaints from citizens about a phone scam that has been making the rounds in New Mexico communities for the past year and which appears to be actively occurring here with phone calls in Los Alamos.
In the latest version of the scam, residents receive a phone call and are informed there is a warrant out for their arrest because they had been summoned for jury duty and failed to appear. The caller then states aggressively that the resident needs to “pay for the fines over the phone” or “wire money to an account” and resolve a warrant fee to clear Read More

Letter To The Editor: System Working Well Across America Should Not Be Tossed Out
By Former Police OfficerI do not believe that the Los Alamos County Sheriff’s Office should be eliminated. I actually believe that it should be expanded and some of the duties held by the Police Department should be transferred to the Sheriff.
Duties such as court security, prisoner transports, process service, sex offender registration, and even control over the county jail, which are all traditionally duties conducted by the sheriff’s departments across the state.
These could easily be conducted by the Sheriff and just a few deputies in Los Alamos. Deputies who Read More
