SHELTER News:
Near the end of April, a small, 8-week-old American bulldog/pitbull terrier mix was surrendered to the Los Alamos Animal Shelter.
All the owner wrote on the form was that the puppy had a heart murmur and that they couldn’t afford the medical costs. They also provided a CD with X-rays. Volunteers could feel the murmur with their bare hand.

Letter To The Letter: Pot-Holed Road Last On List
By STEVAN PATTILOPerhaps it is time to revisit the original road improvement project for West Road. As envisioned, the route was to climb from near the ice rink, rising higher on the south canyon wall to rejoin the newer upper stretch of the existing road.
As it is, the existing pot-holed condition of the road will continue to remain last on the list to be considered by the county for repair. An added safety concern that could be remedied by changing the road location; proper shoulders could be added since there are no usable shoulders for pedestrians and bikers on the narrow existing route. Letter To The Editor: County Decisions!
By GERALD ANTOSWell how about that? Another complete strike out for our dutiful county council. Except for the one member that voted against this move to transfer the Sheriff’s duties to the LAPD, our council has proven that they have no hind sight nor forward thinking abilities at all!
Sure they want to investigate why there are law suits being lost and all, but they completely fail to see that biggest issue is the leadership in the LAPD that is doing the things that the county is being sued for.
It amounts to the attitude at the top trickling down through the ranks and except for those special Read More

Letter To The Editor: Glad County Halts Weed Spraying
By JUTTA KAYSERI am happy to read that the weed spraying has been stopped, as this poses a danger to humans and animals.
Last year, I was walking our senior dog behind Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock where he ate some grass that was growing along the schoolyard fence. As I walked him there again the next day, I noticed that all the weeds were dead, which signaled to me that someone must have sprayed them.
The days that followed were extremely scary for us, as our dog developed severe diarrhea, which lasted several days. Thank goodness, he survived. Read More
