“Granite Mountain” is a motion picture based on the real-life Granite Mountain Hotshots, an elite group of wildland firefighters that courageously battled one of the worst wildfires in history to save an Arizona town.
The production is based at Pajarito Mountain through Wednesday, July 29 and will be producing the following special effects and impacts:

The Art in Public Places Board and members of the Los Alamos County Council will join artist Eric Thelander in the ribbon-cutting and art dedication of the County’s newest art work, “Solar Tree,” at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23.
“Solar Tree” is located in the west plaza of the County Municipal Building in downtown Los Alamos.

Author Elizabeth J. Church Speaks At Library Thursday

Elizabeth J. Church, who spent her early years in Los Alamos and has now returned here to live, has written a novel called The Atomic Weight of Love. She will talk about the book, which is set in Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project and following decades, at the Library’s monthly Authors Speak program at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23.
Church’s book was released May 3, and she has been on a whirlwind book tour ever since. She spoke most recently at the iconic bookstores Powell’s (in Portland) and The Tattered Cover in Denver.

Tularemia – Citizens Need To Be Cautious, watchful, Especially With Pets

Los Alamos County Emergency Management officials commented Tuesday to clarify information on social media sites sharing New Mexico Department of Health information that tularemia cases had been reported in various Northern New Mexico communities, including Los Alamos.
Last year, Los Alamos had seven cases of tularemia in pets in Los Alamos.
