The public is invited to attend the December meeting of the Sierra Club of Los Alamos at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2 in Room 230 of the UNM-Los Alamos Student Center (Bldg. 2). The speaker is Tim Glasco of the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities.
Glasco will discuss the U.S.-Japan Demonstration Smart Grid Project that was undertaken in Los Alamos. Project partners included Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities.

County Announces Thanksgiving Holiday Hours
COUNTY News:The Los Alamos County Administrative Offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The following County Facilities also will have modified hours and services:
Eco-Station
- The Eco Station will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
- There will be no recycling or trash pick up Thursday or Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Alternate pick-up day if affected is Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Ice Rink
- The Ice Rink is open noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

BPU OKs Plan To Address Future Energy Report

The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) approved at its Nov. 18 board meeting a plan to address recommendations contained in the July 7, 2015 Future Electrical Energy Resources Report (FEER Report) .
In July, the Board voted to accept receipt of the report prepared by the Future Energy Resources Committee (FER Committee), a citizen ad-hoc committee charged with providing the BPU and the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) recommendations to realize a long-term goal to be carbon neutral by 2040. County Reminds Motorists Of Winter Safety Tips
COUNTY News:
Winter weather is here, and the County would like to remind residents of some important safety considerations for motorists to take in order to make their travel as safe as possible.
Motorists are encouraged to equip their vehicles with chains and/or snow tires and carry a container of sand and a shovel in their vehicle. Barrels of sand for public use are placed at locations that historically become icy and slick during storms, including:
- San Ildefonso South at both ends of the guardrail;
- North Mesa Road east of the roundabout;
- Near the end of 37th Street off of Diamond Drive;

Residents Reminded To Keep Sidewalks Clear

During the winter months, the County would like to remind residents that it is important to keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice so that they remain passable for postal workers, children walking to school and others who need to use them.
When possible, and depending upon available resources, County crews will conduct sidewalk-clearing operations by removing snow first from the adopted “safe routes to school” and then move to other selected sidewalks.
The County does not clear every sidewalk due to limited resources. Sidewalk priorities include:

Atlas Advertising will travel to Los Alamos Tuesday, Dec. 1 to present to County Council the selected straplines plus logo concepts that support the branding initiative.
