Limited Tickets Available For ‘A Night In MANH(A)TTAN’

Today is the last day tickets can be purchased from Starbucks or reserved for pick-up at the door for “A Night in MANH(A)TTAN,” 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Historic Fuller Lodge at 2132 Central Ave. in Los Alamos.

There are a limited number of tickets still available for purchase. Cost for entry is $25 per adult and $20 per high student (grades 9-12). Children are free.

LAMS Conducts Lockdown Safety Drill Today

LAMS News:

The New Mexico Public Education Department requires that every school in the state have a safety plan in place. The Los Alamos Middle School Safety Plan states that the LAMS staff and students will practice evacuation drills, shelter-in-place drills, and lockdown drills in conjunction with the Los Alamos Police Department. 

Today the Los Alamos Middle School and the Los Alamos Police Department practiced the plan for a lockdown drill. Los Alamos police officers participated in the drill to provide objective and valuable feedback.

Dive-In Movie: Inside Out At Aquatic Center Nov. 13

A double feature dive-in movie is set for 7-8:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 at the Aquatic Center.  
 
Disney’s Inside Out is playing and all age groups and families are welcome.
 
Tickets are $5, which includes treats, popcorn, soda and pool admission to see the movie on a giant theater-sized screen.
 
The Walkup Aquatic Center, in partnership with JJAB and the Teen Center, is showing 9-11 p.m. Jurassic World. Admission is free, and is for all high-school aged youth. There will be pizza and soda along with the theater-sized movie.

Library Conversation Circle Adds New Session

LIBRARY News:

The Conversation Circles program at Mesa Public Library has added a second weekly session to start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 in the Upstairs Meeting Room 3. 

Conversation Circle is not a class; it is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where non-native speakers can practice speaking English. Conversation Circles meet twice a week at Mesa Public Library:

  • Tuesdays at 11:40 a.m. in The Zone (downstairs); and
  • Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. in the Upstairs Meeting Room 3.

MPNHP Visitor Center Grand Opening Wednesday

The community is invited to the grand opening celebration of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park Visitor Center at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at 475 20th St. in the Los Alamos Community Building.

Following the Park Visitor Center event, the community is invited to walk across the street to Historic Fuller Lodge for the 11 a.m. Veterans’ Day ceremony. Property Tax Reminder: First Half Due By Dec. 10

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County property tax bills for 2015 were mailed to property owners last week. The first half installment becomes delinquent after Thursday, Dec. 10. 

Payment must either be made in person at the 311 Customer Care Center by 5 p.m. Dec. 10 or postmarked by midnight that same day to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges.

VFW Hosts Veterans Day Ceremony 11 a.m. Nov. 11

VFW Post 8874 is hosting this year’s Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in front of Fuller Lodge (grassy area, by flag pole).

Access To Los Alamos Reservoir And Surrounding Area Closed Nov. 9, 2015 Through June 30, 2016

Pedestrian and motor vehicle access to the Los Alamos Reservoir will be restricted Monday, Nov. 9, and continue through June 2016. 

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities awarded a contract to CBKN Dirtworks, Inc. to restore the reservoir after several flood events filled it with sediment and compromised the access road.
