Manhattan Project National Historical Park Update
COUNTY News:
Several committee members will be at the Los Alamos County Council’s Fair booth Saturday to visit with the public about the new Park coming in 2016.
The public is invited to stop by 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and visit with them at their tent near Central Avenue.
The Committee met Aug. 6 to discuss the Memorandum of Agreement that has been released by the National Park Service. The deadline for comments to NPS is Aug. 28, 2015.
A council discussion about a temporary visitor’s center for the new Park is on the agenda for the Council meeting at noon Friday, Aug. 14 in Council Chambers. Read More

County Encourages Residents To Register For CodeRED
LAPD News:
A degree of confusion occurred last Friday when a juvenile thought to be armed was running from police in White Rock and the County initiated its CodeRED notification system to alert residents to stay in their homes until the individual was apprehended.
Some individuals received the CodeRED telephone call and thought it was a telemarketer and hung up – never realizing the possible danger looming outside their home. County Begins Testing School Zone Flashing Lights

Technicians from the Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division will test school zone flashers across the community the two days immediately prior to the new school year, which starts Aug. 13.
The flashing beacons will activate at school zones Tuesday, Aug. 11 and Wednesday, Aug. 12, according to their programed schedules, which are based on each school’s normal schedule.

Los Alamos County is developing a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) Update to its 2006 plan.
The purpose of this LHMP Update is to assess risk to natural hazards, implement actions to reduce future losses, and maintain eligibility for federal mitigation funds in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.
