Council Approves Salary Bump For Direct Reports

Los Alamos County Councilor Steven Girrens announced during this evening’s meeting in Council Chambers that as a result of two weeks of personnel evaluations of the County’s three contract employees who report to Council, and a closed session at 6 p.m. today, he moved to award 3 percent raises in pay to County Manager Harry Burgess and County Attorney Rebecca Ehler and a 2 percent raise for Utilities Manager Tim Glasco. DOE Appoints Angelica Gurulé To Northern New Mexico Citizens’ Advisory Board

The U.S. Department of Energy Los Alamos Field Office appointed Angelica Gurulé May 15 to the Northern New Mexico Citizens’ Advisory Board (NNMCAB).

Gurulé serves as the Environmental Services Manager for Los Alamos County and is a resident of Española.

She will represent the citizens of Española, Santa Fe and Rio Arriba counties during her time on the board.

“I would like to learn as much as possible and be an advocate for the environmental health and safety of residents of northern New Mexico,” Gurulé said.

Rainstorms May Account For Discoloration At Pond

Residents have voiced concern with the water discoloration lately at Ashley Pond. The County Parks Department explains that some of the problems with the color of the water could be from frequent and recent storms, as the water from the road drain inlets on 20th Street do feed into the pond.

Rodent; Faulty Line Cause Power Outages Saturday

DPU News:

Two separate power outages affected Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities customers last Saturday.

The first outage occurred in the early morning and was caused by a rodent, while the second occurred mid-day due to a faulty underground line.  

At approximately 12:47 a.m. Saturday, a rodent came into contact with an underground switch near the airport, knocking out power to more than 600 customers. The area affected included residential customers north on Canyon and Rim Road, and east to East Gate. Power was restored to the area by 1:40 a.m. by DPU lineman.
