DPU Earns National Customer Satisfaction Award
On Monday, the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) was presented a Public Power Customer Satisfaction Award for providing excellent service to Los Alamos County.
The recognition came from the American Public Power Association (APPA) at its annual conference in Louisville, Ky.
There are approximately 2,000 public power providers nationwide.
APPA presented the award to 20 utilities that received high marks from customers in:

Los Alamos County’s Newly Formed Inclusivity Task Force To Hold First Public Meeting Wednesday Oct. 30
Los Alamos County’s newly formed Inclusivity Task Force will hold its first public meeting noon Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Room 110 of the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave.

Los Alamos Aquatic Center Closed For Swim Meet Nov. 2
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos Aquatic Center will be closed to the public Saturday, Nov. 2 to host the Mountain Club Swim Meet.
The event is 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., bringing together multiple USA Swimming teams from Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque.
The closure will affect both the main pool and therapy pool, as the center dedicates its facilities to supporting youth swimming in New Mexico.
The Aquatic Center will resume regular hours Sunday, Nov. 3.

County Launches Performance Metrics Dashboard Online

In a continued effort to enhance transparency, Los Alamos County has launched a performance metrics dashboard, now accessible on its website losalamosnm.us.
This initiative follows the Los Alamos County Council’s approval in November 2023 of a Strategic Leadership Plan, which defined 22 strategic priorities across five key goals to guide the County’s initiatives.

Community Building Roof Coating Project To Begin Oct. 28
As part of ongoing maintenance efforts, Los Alamos County Public Works Department has announced that a silicone roof coating will be applied to the Community Building at 475 20th St.
This essential project aims to extend the lifespan of the existing roof.
The project begins Oct. 28 and is expected to be completed by mid-November. During this time, contracted professionals will clean and prepare the existing roof surface to ensure adhesion of the new coating.
Residents and visitors can expect some minor disruptions during this time.

Aquatic Center Closed Oct. 26 For Pumpkin Splash Event

COUNTY News:
The Aquatic Center will be closed for public swimming Oct. 26 to host the Pumpkin Splash event. During this time, the main pool, therapy pool, and leisure lagoon will be reserved for event activities, and general public access will not be permitted.
The leisure lagoon will be the center of the Pumpkin Splash, where participants can dive in and pick their own pumpkins. Only parents or guardians accompanying a ticketed participant will be allowed entry to the pool area. Without a ticketed participant, entry will not be allowed.

County Records Office Closure Extended Through November
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Records and Information Management (RIM) office closure has been extended through the end of November due to unforeseen circumstances related to emergency utility infrastructure repair. While the physical office at 1000 Central Ave., Suite 190 in the Municipal Building, is closed, the RIM staff continue to work remotely and are available by phone and email.
According to Records Manager Barbara Ricci, her team is processing records requests in accordance with the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA). Requests can be submitted online at

Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center Closing Early Today
The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) regrets to inform the public that the Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center is closing at 2 p.m. today due to heating issues impacting the safety of both members and employees.
Senior center staff are actively addressing the situation and anticipate that it will be resolved in time for the facility to reopen at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

County Environmental Services Department Closed For Quarterly Employee Training And Certification
Los Alamos County Environmental Services Department is closed today, Oct. 23, for employee development, safety training, and certification compliance.
This includes operations at the Eco Station and the Overlook Convenience Center.
Residential service will not be impacted; however, commercial trash and recycling collection service will also be suspended today.
Commercial collection and all other services will resume Thursday, Oct. 24.
