Los Alamos Public Schools Is Closed … Happy Snow Day!

Los Alamos Public Schools has closed for today, Dec. 14.

Snow is predicted to continue to fall through the morning and we are not able to keep up with snow removal.

There will be no school, no sports and no activities. Classes will resume on Friday.

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will be on a 2-hour delay on Thursday, Dec. 14.

All schools will start 2 hours late.

Northern New Mexico College To Close For Winter Break

ESPAÑOLA — Northern New Mexico College will be closed Dec. 16, 2023 through Jan. 1, 2024 and will reopen Jan. 2, 2024.

No classes will be held, and no student services will be available during that time. There is a lot I’ve been seeing in the news lately about a new rule that is being proposed by the New Mexico Public Education Department that would establish the standard minimum school year is 180 days for all schools. I want to be clear about something, this is an update of an existing rule that established the 180-day minimum standard for schools with 5 days per week calendars in 2011-2012.

This rule was not strictly enforced in recent years due to the pandemic, so some schools have dropped their instructional days below 180. In Read More

LAHS Eco Club To Host Thrift Sale Dec. 16

LAPS News:

The Los Alamos High School Eco Club invites the community to its first Thrift Sale 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 16 in the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.

Signs will be posted on campus to direct buyers to the Speech Theater.

Proceeds from the sale will go to the LAHS Eco Club to work on sustainable projects on the high school campus, including building a greenhouse.

The Eco Club meets every Tuesday to plan sustainable projects on campus. Members are currently working on the thrift sale, electrifying LAHS (banning anything that burns fossil fuels), and a plastic bag ban. Their goal Read More
