Los Alamos High School (LAHS) kicked off the fall sports season on the new Sullivan Field turf this morning with a varsity boys soccer game against Santa Fe Prep.
The first varsity football game is 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 vs. Taos High School.
Tickets for all home events are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors (age 65 and older). Tickets may be purchased in advance at https://lahstoppers.com/event-tickets. Los Alamos Public Schools has welcomed more than 85 new licensed and non-licensed employees to start the 2023-2024 school year.
The new employees attended a new employee orientation earlier this month and ere employed at school sites throughout the district as well as at the central office and facilities.
“We are excited to see so many new faces at LAPS,” Superintendent Jennifer Guy said. “We are well prepared for the upcoming school year.”

Educator Fellows Program Grows In New Mexico Schools
A New Mexico two-year fellowship that removes barriers for those interested in becoming licensed educators has grown from 380 participants last school year to almost 500 this year.

No Classes Today At Mountain Elementary School
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) had an issue with the fire alarm system at Mountain Elementary School Thursday night. Unfortunately, the fire suppression system is not working.
LAPS is not allowed to have students in the building if the alarm system or fire suppression does not work.
LAPS has identified the problem and will work to get it fixed as quickly as possible.
There will be NO school for Mountain Students today, Friday Aug. 18. School will resume Monday, Aug. 21.

First Born Program To Host Prenatal Retreat Friday Aug. 18
The First Born Program of Los Alamos is hosting a prenatal retreat for first time parents to be noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18.
This event will cover information about newborn feeding and sleeping, short demonstrations on infant massage, infant CPR and choking first aid, plus some parent-to-be well being and self care tips.
