ALBUQUERQUE — Daniel Kim of Los Alamos, was one of 36 high school students who attended the Joint Science and Technology Institute (JSTI) West, an educational opportunity to expand his knowledge and experience in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

LAPS To Host Informational Meeting For Potential School Board Candidates Monday Aug. 14
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will host an informational meeting for potential School Board candidates starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 in the School Boardroom.
Los Alamos County Clerk Naomi Maestas will open the meeting by providing information about the candidate filing process and campaign requirements. Former and current school board members will then host a question-and-answer session for potential candidates to learn more about school board roles and responsibilities.

LAPS Foundation Announces Hilltopper 5K Run Aug. 19
LAPS Foundation News:
The community is invited to join LAPS Foundation Saturday, Aug. 19 for the second annual Hilltopper 5K Run.
The run is hosted by TCR Productions of Albuquerque, owned by Tom Rojas, a Los Alamos High School alum from the Class of 1972. Proceeds from the race will go to LAPS Foundation to benefit the schools. The LAHS cross country team staffs the race.

The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Boys Soccer Team will play the annual Alumni Game 6 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 5. Due to construction on Sullivan Field, the game will be played at Los Alamos Middle School.

ESPAÑOLA — Northern New Mexico College’s Department of Nursing & Health Sciences has something to crow about. Every one of this year’s graduates from the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program passed the NCLEX-RN licensure exam on their first try.

Students attending Los Alamos Public Schools will head back to the classroom on Wednesday, Aug. 9 for the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
All students in kindergarten through 6th grade will be dismissed at noon. It will be a full day for middle and high school students.
Thursday, Aug. 10 and Friday, Aug. 11 will be full days for all students.
