State Of New Mexico Announces New Initiatives To Address Food And Housing Insecurity On College Campuses
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Higher Education Department announced new initiatives to address food and housing insecurity on college campuses on Friday during an event at the University of New Mexico to present findings of the first statewide college basic needs study.
The State will dedicate $1 million this year to support on-campus food and nutrition projects statewide and partner with Complete College America, a national college access organization, to improve supports for students struggling to meet their basic needs.

How would you like to meet a celebrity? How about 20 in a single day? Well, you are in luck! Continuing with a longstanding tradition, the Chamisa third and fourth graders will be presenting their annual Wax Museum Wednesday, May 10.
Now, how does this work? Great question! To start, each third and fourth grader at Chamisa Elementary School did research on a famous person, and then they turned this research into a speech to tell the story of their person. Los Alamos NJROTC competed April 1 in the New Mexico State JROTC Military Skills Meet at Cibola High School. Topper Company competed in marksmanship, color guard, physical fitness, unit personnel inspection, unarmed regulation drill and, for the first time this year, armed regulation drill. The cadets were eager to show off their skills in competition with other JROTC units from around the state while also taking the opportunity to grow closer as a family.

The present LAPS “attendance campaign” may be doing more harm than good and should be terminated immediately. This “campaign” includes giving awards to students for outstanding attendance and giving awards to classrooms with the best attendance. Such efforts are not evidence-based; they risk shaming the large number of students who have missed a significant number of schooldays this year because of illness; and, they lead to the bullying of students who, by getting sick and correctly not going to school, “cause their class” to miss winning an attendance award.
