Registration For LAHS Summer Programs Now Open

Registration for Summer PE and TVA programs at Los Alamos High School (LAHS) is now open. Both programs run 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, June 5 through June 23, 2023.
The Summer PE program activities will include swimming, golf, hiking aerobics and jiu jitsu. The cost is $250 (non-refundable). Click here for the Summer PE enrollment form.

LANL Foundation Announces $1.5 Million In Education Enrichment & Community Outreach Grants

ESPAÑOLA — LANL Foundation has announced $1.5 million in grant awards to 48 schools, school districts, non-profits, Pueblos, and tribal communities in their seven-county service area in Northern New Mexico.
$1.4 million in Education Enrichment grants was awarded and $100,000 in Community Outreach grants was awarded. Education Enrichment grantees will receive $50,000 over two years and Community Outreach grantees will receive a one-time award of $5,000.

A group of students at Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) are introducing a new project to the community: donation boxes.
So what is this project? This is their Powerful Voices, Powerful Change project, a service project done by the Los Alamos Middle School speech and debate team every year. Students of the Weaving and Fiber Arts Department of Northern New Mexico College will be exhibiting and selling their creations at the 35th annual Arts Festival, Studio Tour and Mercado May 20-21 in El Rito.

SALA Parallel Cinema Theme In May: Mental Health Matters

This month SALA’s Parallel Cinema is themed Mental Health Matters – a collaborative program hosted by the LAPS Prevention Program, Los Alamos JJAB, Los Alamos County Municipal Court and Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation.
The goal of this series is to raise awareness and offer strategies to improve children, teen and family mental health. The first three Thursdays in May SALA will feature a film and discussion about the factors that support and present challenges to mental health. Students Rally To Raise Minimum Wage In Los Alamos
Students at Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) are working on a project to gather support to raise the minimum wage in Los Alamos County.
The students have created a Google Form for online viewers to fill out, or physical viewers can email mrluen@gmail.com for a form to be sent to them, or for answers to any questions about sources, clarification or any other topic.
Below is a quick list of the student’s reasoning:

NNSA To Award $100 Million For Stewardship Science Academic Alliances Centers Of Excellence

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration selected eight universities to receive cooperative agreements totaling $100 million to establish nine Stewardship Science Academic Alliances (SSAA) Centers of Excellence to support research activities in areas of physical sciences and engineering.
