New Mexico Celebrates College Application Month This November

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) is partnering with the New Mexico Public Education Department, the New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation, and the state’s public colleges and universities to drive up college applications this November as part of College Application Month.  

Public colleges and universities in New Mexico who typically charge fees to submit an application will waive the cost throughout November as part of the joint initiative, although some New Mexico schools do not charge application fees at any time of year.   Read More

NMSP Identifies Student Killed On UNM Campus

NMSP News:

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate a homicide Nov. 19 on the main campus of the University of New Mexico (UNM).

State Police investigators learned that at about 3:00 a.m. there was an altercation between UNM student Brandon Travis, 19, of Albuquerque, and a 21-year-old NMSU student. During the altercation, both individuals sustained gunshot wounds.

Los Alamos High School (LAHS) will release the 2023 Local Scholarship packet to seniors in December.

These scholarships, offered by many local organizations, are awarded to students pursuing college or technical and trade schools upon graduation. Awards are given not only for academic achievements, but also for athletics, music, art and community service.

SANTA FE — The Department of Health (DOH) Vaccine Advisory Committee met Nov. 3, 2022, to have an open scientific debate and make recommendations for the New Mexico School Entry Immunization Requirements for the upcoming school year.

Power Outage To Affect Los Alamos Middle School Nov. 16

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) has been notified of a scheduled power outage beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 in Los Alamos that will impact Los Alamos Middle School.

Students may not be on campus during this outage so will be dismissed at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Buses will run their regular routes at 11 a.m. and all after school clubs and activities, with the exception of wrestling at 4 p.m., will be canceled.

The power outage is not expected to impact Los Alamos High School or school sites in White Rock.

Los Alamos Middle School will resume on a regular schedule Thursday, Nov. 17.
