When my wife and I decided to move back to White Rock with our two young children more than a decade ago, I knew one thing for certain: Our kids would receive a great education. A White Rock native, I grew up in the Los Alamos Public School system, going first to Chamisa Elementary and then to the Middle and High Schools. It is my pleasure to write in support of Chris Bernstein for a position on the Los Alamos Public School Board.

I attended Los Alamos school system from kindergarten to 12th grade, and ultimately graduated in May of 2013. During my time at Los Alamos High School I had the pleasure of getting to know Mrs. Bernstein, or Mrs. B as we called her.

Iron Magma Could Explain Psyche Density Puzzle

TUCSON, Ariz. — The metallic asteroid Psyche has mystified scientists because it is less dense than it should be.
 
Now, a new theory by researchers including scientists at the University of Arizona, could explain Psyche’s low density and metallic surface.
 
Psyche, the largest known metallic asteroid in the solar system, is located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Psyche appears to be composed largely of iron and nickel, rather than rocky rubble, like most asteroids, yet its density is estimated to be only about half that of an iron meteorite.

Sharon Allen of Los Alamos is making a library of books in response to an urgent request from a northern Uganda school that is supporting young children of refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan.
 
She is responding to the need to collect 1,000 children’s books in new or used condition (pre-K-2nd grade reading level) by Nov. 1 for shipment the following week.
 
Baby board books are in great demand, she said.
