Teachers Union: Salary Agreement For 2019-2020

ALBUQUERQUE — After months of negotiations, the Albuquerque Teachers Federation (ATF) announced a tentative agreement with the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) on raises for certified employees.
 
“While contract talks continue on other terms and conditions of employment, I am proud to say that all APS educators we represent will return to work next school year with significant salary increases. I am particularly pleased that we were able to negotiate a level of equitability in raises for all of our employee groups beyond what the state legislature specified.” ATF

County: 2019 Zero Waste Champions Of The Year

To promote recycling and zero waste in the community as well as to encourage more businesses to participate in the recycling program, the Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division and the Environmental Sustainability Board sponsored the Zero Waste Champion of the Year award.
 
This award was previously known as the Business Recycler of the Year Award; however, the award program was expanded to include other sustainability initiatives such as water and energy conservation and overall waste reduction.

State Program Trains 2,300 Workers At 70 Companies

SANTA FE A start-up that helps retailers compete with Internet sellers and a company that builds unmanned solar aircraft are among the firms awarded job-training grants in June, said Economic Development Department Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes.
 
The most recent grants went to seven companies to train 52 workers in areas from chemistry to electronics and tech assembly to solar installation.
 
The June awards are the last of the 2019 Fiscal Year for the Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP), one of the top employee-training programs in the United States.

New Mexico artists were invited to create temporary artworks inspired by the natural landscape, artistic and cultural heritage and history of innovation in the community of Los Alamos. A committee of Los Alamos community members selected the theme of Aha! and five artworks based on this theme.

Highlands University School Of Education Offering $525,970 In Teacher Education Scholarship Funds

LAS VEGAS, NM – The New Mexico Highlands University School of Education is offering $525,970 in teacher education scholarships, thanks to awards from two New Mexico Higher Education Department programs.

In its 2019 session, the New Mexico State Legislature approved $10 million for the Teacher Preparation Affordability Scholarship Act, with Highlands receiving $479,853.

Also in 2019, the legislature approved $510,000 for the new Grow Your Own Teacher Act, with Highlands receiving $46,117.

Santa Fe Community College and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will close Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
