The Los Alamos Garden Club announces its 2019 scholarship of $1,500 goes to graduating senior Levi Guarello. Guarello is a three-year letterman in football and a four-year letterman and captain in rugby. He discovered his passion for electronics while taking robotics in high school and as a dual credit through UNM-LA. SFCC Invites Public To Reopening Of William C. Witter Fitness Education Center May 9

SANTA FE ― Santa Fe Community College invites everyone to the grand reopening of the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center 5-6 p.m. Thursday, May 9.

The festive event will give the public an opportunity to see the many upgrades and improvements made in the interior of the center.

The re-opening will highlight the beautiful, state-of-the art interior changes from Phase One following the passage of the SFCC Bond in February 2018. Members of the public who attend will be given a free one-day pass and refreshments will be served.

March 6, 2019, 35 LAPS students in grades 6-12 attended the New Mexico Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness in Rio Rancho. County Seeks Volunteer ‘Actors’ For Emergency Exercise

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County will be conducting a County-wide active shooter exercise Saturday, May 18 at the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos campus.

The campus will be closed May 18 for the exercise, which is being conducted in order to test and improve the County’s overall preparedness in responding to an active shooter event.

The County is seeking at least 30 volunteers to participate as “actors” in the exercise. Exercise activity will take place over approximately seven hours beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until 3 p.m. May 18.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Since its discovery in 2016, planetary scientists have been excited about TRAPPIST-1, a system where seven Earth-sized rocky planets orbit a cool star.

Barranca Elementary School Participates In Parent Reunification Exercise Drill

Earlier this month, students and staff from Barranca Elementary School particpated in a parent reunification exercise to practice the state-required off-site evacuation drill to evaluate the local school district’s preparedness in the event of an emergency.

More than 350 students were bused from the school to the First Baptist Church on Diamond Drive where staff met them and escorted them to the church hall. Parents then checked in with staff as part of the process and were reunited with their students.

SANTA FE ― The Santa Fe National Forest offers Site Stewards Saturday, May 18, to explore two unusual horizontal rock art panels on Glorieta Mesa.
