Dr. Lopez will discuss “New Directions in Cancer Diagnosis and Treatments: Precision Medicine” at the First Baptist Church.

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is proud to announce the release of a report on elder abuse by our New Mexico state Advisory Committee.
The Committee identified five dynamics in the state that increase the risk of abuse for elders:
• Widespread poverty and lack of affordable services available to elders and caregivers;
• Underreporting suspicion of abuse by caretakers, providers, and elders themselves;
• Structural weaknesses in the healthcare system that allow abuse to go undetected;

Los Alamos teachers Rita Sanchez of Los Alamos Middle School and Sharon Jiron of Chamisa Elementary School have rallied their classes during this homecoming week, to provide get well cards to former Chamisa student Ezra Maes and two crew members now in Texas who are recovering from injuries sustained in a tank accident in Poland. Maes was a Chamisa student during his elementary years and has a long recovery ahead of him. Barranca Elementary Class Executes Business Plan
Dana Kline, fifth grade math teacher at Barranca Mesa Elementary, started the school year in a big way with a math-based project called Lemonade Stand! Students brainstormed, researched, did a lot of math, and wrote a business plan to sell lemonade. One group of the three classes who wrote exemplary plans and were selected to set up a stand and sell lemonade. They made their own sign, shopped for ingredients and supplies, made the product and learned how to make change. The profits will go to the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter or LA Cares Food Bank.
