ALBUQUERQUE The Albuquerque Public School District has been awarded $380,626.00 in grant funding from the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA).
 
The grant provides partial funding for the early replacement of five older, more polluting diesel-fueled school buses with five new gasoline-fueled school buses that meet the current EPA emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles.

Los Alamos teachers Rita Sanchez of Los Alamos Middle School and Sharon Jiron of Chamisa Elementary School have rallied their classes during this homecoming week, to provide get well cards to former Chamisa student Ezra Maes and two crew members now in Texas who are recovering from injuries sustained in a tank accident in Poland. Maes was a Chamisa student during his elementary years and has a long recovery ahead of him. Barranca Elementary Class Executes Business Plan

Dana Kline, fifth grade math teacher at Barranca Mesa Elementary, started the school year in a big way with a math-based project called Lemonade Stand! Students brainstormed, researched, did a lot of math, and wrote a business plan to sell lemonade. One group of the three classes who wrote exemplary plans and were selected to set up a stand and sell lemonade.
