Los Alamos School Board Adopts 2018-19 Budget With 4.5 Percent Raise For All Staff

The Los Alamos School Board adopted a $37,953,364 million operational budget for the 2018-19 school year at its Tuesday baord meeting.

 
The budget reflects parent, student, staff and community priorities and is designed to meet the mission and eight focus areas in the LAPS Strategic Plan.
 
The first three focus areas are:
  • Student Well-Being;
  • Student Learning; and
  • Teacher and Staff Well-Being and Excellence.

Resolve, formerly IMPACT Personal Safety, a nonprofit organization dedicated to violence prevention, will be holding Speak Up, Speak Out: Module 1, a bystander intervention training, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Family Strengths Network at 3540 Orange St. in Los Alamos.
 
Teens and adults will learn and practice different strategies for intervening — whether it is someone we know telling an offensive joke or making a concerning comment, or an instance of harassment or violence we witness in public. This class is free and open to the public

White Rock Cub Scouts Pack 326 will hold a service project at 2 p.m., April 22 at Tsankawi.
 
The service project includes dispersing pottery collection piles at Twankawi Ruin. This event not only showcases a local Cub Scout Troop performing a community service, but may educate the public to proper etiquette at local archaeological sites.
 
A Bandelier archaeologist will be at the event to help educate Cub Scouts on the importance of the project.

In March, Latin students at Los Alamos High School participated in the 2018 National Latin Exam. Four students won gold medals, Four students won silver medals and sixstudents earned Magna Cum Laude certificates. Overall, 22 students won a medal or certificate.
