The School Board and I are deeply troubled by the tragic news from Aztec, New Mexico. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We are keeping the students, parents, staff, and the entire Aztec community in our thoughts and prayers. We want to also acknowledge and appreciate the quick actions of the school staff and first responders in Aztec.

Jingle Bell Run Sunday

LAPS News:

The Los Alamos High School Band is hosting the third Annual Jingle Bell Rock ‘N Run Sunday, Dec. 10 to raise money for the Los Alamos High School and Middle School band programs.

The fun run includes the choice of a 5K or 1 mile run and is modeled after the popular Rock and Roll marathons by featuring live music along the routes. Students from the Los Alamos High School and Middle School bands will be playing holiday tunes for the runners. Costs are $30 for the 5K (race day registration is $35) and $10 for the mile.

Pinon Collect Books For Kenyan School Libraries

Pinon School is trying to help kids in Africa by sending books to the kids in Kenya so they can learn to read and read more.

We gathered one thousand books and we wrote a grant to the Alex Kirk Foundation, which donated $200 to help us finish our goal of $500. We rasied  have all the money we need to send the books to Kenya. People from the community donated bookmarks they made which also helped pay to send the books.

SANTA FE  Santa Fe Community College and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will close for Winter Break Saturday, Dec. 18  through Monday, Jan. 1.
 
No classes or activities will be held and no other student services will be available during this time. Snow removal and grounds maintenance will not be operational during this time. The college’s early childhood development center, Kids Campus and the William C. Educators Pension Fund Investments Posts Positive Return For The Eighth Consecutive Quarter

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Educational Retirement Board Fund, which provides defined pension benefits to the state’s public educational employees, posted an investment return of 3.0 percent, net of management fees for the three months ending Sept. 30, 2017.
 
This marks the eighth consecutive quarter of positive returns. The fund has experienced only one negative quarter in the last 17 calendar quarters.
 
The fund also reached a new high in assets at $12.6 billion, an increase of $365.6 million for the quarter.
