Alert: In coordination With Police Department, All LAPS Students Will Be Released At Normal Time Today

News Alert:

In coordination with the Los Alamos Police Department, all Los Alamos Public School students will be released at their normal time today.

  There will be no buses from the High School or Middle School to White Rock. Parents of MS and HS students, please pick your student up at their school. 

Parents of Chamisa and Pinon elementary school students in White Rock are asked to go to their child’s school, come prepared to show ID, report to the office, and follow instructions for release of your children.

Alert: Man Robbed LANB In White Rock Today … Remains At Large … Area Schools In Lockdown

News Alert:

Preliminary reports indicate that a man robbed the Los Alamos National Bank today in White Rock, that shots were fired outside, no reports of injuries.

The robber is on the loose and Los Alamos Public Schools has placed both Chamisa and Pinon elementary schools in White Rock on lockdown to keep students and staff safe while police hunt down the robber.

‘The Pain Behind The Badge’ Awards Scholarship To Autumn Sanchez For Outstanding Community Service

Autumn Sanchez, daughter of Joy Sanchez and the late Mark Sanchez, was the recipient of a scholarship presented by an organization called ‘The Pain Behind the Badge’ in recognition of her outstanding community service and in memory of her father’s law enforcement career before his death in May 2011. PAC 8 Is Awarded Rotary Grant And Now Offers Free Media Classes To Middle School Students

PAC 8 Community Media Center will be holding free classes for middle school students Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.
 
Students will learn how to operate cameras, edit with Adobe Premiere software, and use special effects. They will produce a Public Service Announcement for a local non-profit organization which will play at the Reel Deal Theater. 
 
Classes are 3:30–5 p.m. beginnng Thursday Nov. 16 and up to 10 students will be able to participate. Classes will be taught by PAC 8 CIC intern and LAHS student Peter Watson.

On Aug. 29, 2017, our County Council unanimously passed a proclamation honoring the contributions of immigrants. Compared to the earlier version in April, specific language was removed, its tone was softened, and a more strident “resolution” was changed to a “proclamation,” which did not require a vote.

The Los Alamos Public School District recently underwent an extensive accreditation review through an organization called AdvancED, and the preliminary findings were positive and informative.

Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus received verbal confirmation that LAPS will indeed be accredited for the next five years.
