  • Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for US teens.
  • More than 2,300 teens (ages 16‒19) lost their lives in car crashes in 2015—that’s six teens every day.
  • Per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are nearly three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash.

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) appeared to backpedal Tuesday on proposed changes to the New Mexico Science Education Standards, which are at odds with the Next Generation Science Standards developed by a consortium of states and the National Academy of Sciences.

Los Alamos High School Key Club Bake Sale Oct. 20

Los Alamos High School Key Club will be running a bake sale in the lobby of LANB 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. The money they raise will go to the African Library Project. Recently, as part of the African Library Project, high schoolers have made efforts to collect 1,000 books to create a library for a girls school in Kenya. Every school in the district also plans to reach this goal, in an effort organized and spearheaded by former teacher Sharon Allen.
