LAPS Saves Over $2 Million In Energy Costs

Over the past 12 years, Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) has partnered with Cenergistics and, in that time, has saved over $2 million in utility costs. Curtis Terrill, a science teacher at Los Alamos Middle School, has been a classroom teacher by day and Energy Specialist by night for five years.

“Money saved on our utility bills equals more dollars for our classrooms,” Terrill said. “Our energy conscious district employees make our program a success.”

What’s All This Hoopla At The Library?

Beginning Oct. 10, the Los Alamos County Library System will roll out a new service called hoopla, which provides a whole new set of delicious digital offerings to its patrons.
 
The library is adding about 30,000 new items to its digital library. Now library cardholders will be able to stream music and videos, read books and browse comics in electronic formats. The hoopla library is in addition to Overdrive, not a replacement.

Recently, the Public Education Department asked for comments about their proposed science standards for New Mexico public schools. Being that Los Alamos is a community that highly values science, the Los Alamos School Board has written a response to PED.

It’s a fiesta! Join Los Alamos County Libraries to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month starting Tuesday.

Observed annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 as a way to celebrate the heritage and culture of Hispanic and Latinx Americans, the libraries will celebrate with a week of bilingual programs for children.

This includes music and movement programs and storytimes in Spanish and English for children 0-6 and a special afterschool event for kids 6-12 with a story and activity in Spanish and English.
