Dear Community,

With school starting on the 17th, I want to let you know about something I did last semester that was awesome! I gained valuable experience, learned a lot, and EARNED 1 credit at UNMLA and $600.

How did I do this? I was an intern with the Community Internship Collaboration – a joint venture between LAHS, UNM-LA and businesses in our community.

LAPS Announces Theme For 2017-2018 School Year

Today, Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kurt Steinhaus unveiled the theme for 2017-2018: Show Up! It Matters!

“We are incentivizing students to arrive at school ready to fully engage in learning,” Steinhaus said.

This year’s theme will also help inspire parents and staff to encourage our students about all aspects of success at school, including eating well, getting enough sleep, and arriving on time to class.

PEEC Provides Family-Friendly Backpacking Trip

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is hosting a guided, family-friendly backpacking trip Saturday, Aug. 26 and Sunday, Aug. 27 hiking up to five miles a day in the backcountry. This family backpacking adventure will last two days and one night.

Peterson has conducted three award-winning science fair projects that analyze fluctuating temperatures and precipitation rates, as well as how present-day extremes may impact crops in the future.
