ALBUQUERQUE—New Mexico’s investment in K-12 education—which is crucial for communities to thrive and the state economy to offer broad opportunity—has declined dramatically in recent years. New Mexico cut its general school funding by nearly 14 percent between 2008 and 2014, according to a new report released by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a nonpartisan policy research organization based in Washington, D.C.

SANTA FE – American Federation of Teachers New Mexico and the Albuquerque Teachers Federation’s District Court lawsuit against the New Mexico Public Education Department is scheduled to have a status hearing regarding progress on the case.
It is the belief of AFT NM and ATF that the PED has purposefully delayed providing critical data from the existing educator evaluation system to the plaintiffs and their experts for the purpose of determining the systems validity.

Strong public schools are one of the corner stones of a successful community. The Los Alamos Public Schools are seeking approval for general obligation bonds valued at about $11 million. It is important to note that the LA school district has relied upon us the Los Alamos community for school renovation funding since 2009.
The LA Schools recently held open houses for the community members to see the current state of our schools. It was pretty clear where prior bond monies have improved our facilities and where renovations are still very much needed. Read More
