John Lyles Reveals His Explorations In NM’s Caves

Learn about the seventh-longest explored cave in the world during a talk by John Lyles at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road.

Lyles will discuss the underground wilderness of Lechuguilla Cave at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. His talk will reveal discoveries in Snowy River passage and Fort Stanton Cave, their exquisite natural resources, and 140 miles of subterranean adventure. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., will nconvene a roundtable discussion at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, with university and college presidents and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) representatives in Santa Fe to discuss ways to increase job-training opportunities for positions at LANL.

SANTA FE  New Mexico’s students now have access to a proven, award-winning math curriculum that delivers math instruction through a combination of online and printed resources to develop students’ high-order math skills.
 
The New Mexico Public Education Department reviewed and officially adopted ORIGO Education’s math curriculum, Stepping Stones, for grades 3–5. This curriculum is an expansion of their original adoption of Stepping Stones grades K-2 in 2012.

Nora Scott, graduating with the 2016 senior class of Los Alamos High School, will perform a voice recital at 1 p.m. Friday at Fuller Lodge. 

Scott was a member of Los Alamos High School premier choir Schola Cantorum that has performed at the Lincoln Center and throughout Europe. She also has taken voice lessons from Alicia Solomon for the past two years.

Police Alert Motorists To Senior Appreciation Night

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department reminds motorists and citizens that Saturday May 28 is the annual Senior Appreciation Night.

This means that recent graduates will enjoy a night of festivities in the downtown area especially around Ashley Pond Park, the YMCA on 15th Street and Reel Deal Theater. Activities are scheduled  6 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday.

Bridge The Gap: Next Step Launched At Teen Center

A new service organization was born last Saturday at the Los Alamos Teen Center.
 
The program has one simple goal: utilize the power and knowledge of high school students to bridge the information gap between New Mexico communities. It is called Bridge the Gap: Next Step, connecting trained LAHS mentors with their NM peers, high school seniors, to give counsel and exchange information on post-high school steps, including college, scholarships, or jobs.
