Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is holding a special show at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18  in the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium.
 
Sam Berne will reveal some of the fascinating information about the planets in the solar system and discuss some recent discoveries.

Los Alamos High School Drill, Academic, and Physical Fitness teams competed Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Area 9 Drill Meet at West Mesa High School in Albuquerque.

Overall, all teams did an outstanding job. Hard work and practice really paid off in the end. Armed Basic Drill commanded by Michael Purdy tied for 1st place.

Jingle Bell Rock ‘N Run 5K Sunday

LAHS News:

The Los Alamos High School Band is hosting the Jingle Bell Rock ‘N Run this Sunday, Dec. 13 to raise money for their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C.

The fun run includes the choice of a 5K or 1 mile run and is modeled after the popular Rock and Roll marathons featuring live music along the routes. Students from Los Alamos High School and Los Alamos Middle School will play holiday tunes for the runners.  

Costs are $30 for the 5K and $10 for the mile. The mile starts at 2 p.m. and the 5K at 2:30 pm. Both runs start and finish at the Los Alamos Middle School.

Planetarium Showing ‘Exoplanets’ Film This Weekend

Pajarito Environmental Education Center is bringing Exoplanets back to the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium at 2 p.m., Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.

Exoplanets takes audiences on a journey to observeplanets beyond our solar systemand uncover the science and astronomy behind their discovery. This full-dome film was produced by Casper Planetarium.

Tickets may be purchased by phone or at the nature center for $6 for adults and $4 for children. This movie is recommended for ages four and up. The movie starts promptly at 2 p.m. and seating is limited.

This week, School Board members and LAPS officials held a community meeting to seek public input about proposed music wing renovations at Los Alamos High School.

The meeting was attended by students, high school teachers, Principals, and representatives from the Los Alamos Concert Association, Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra, and other interested parties. Wanted: Previously Loved Stuffies For Kids In Need

Staff and children at the Chamisa Elementary YMCA Afterschool program discussed gratitude last month. 

Y counselor Stephanie Fanning told the kids about her student teaching experience at a Title I school in Amarillo, Texas and about how little the children had.

Second grader Ava Bean asked if something couldn’t be done for those kids, and thus launched “Ava’s Project” a spin-off idea related to Rudolph’s Island of Misfit Toys. Ava was inspired to share joy and love with children beyond the community of Los Alamos.
