Española—Ten high school seniors from northern New Mexico will be honored this month as 2015 SOC Los Alamos Scholars representing rural communities across the extended Rio Arriba County region.

For 18 consecutive years, SOC Los Alamos has helped students from this rural region achieve their dreams of pursuing a higher education by providing scholarships for young men and women earning top scores in the program’s competitive process.

Preventing dog bites is everyone’s responsibility whether you are a dog owner or not. Dr. Bob Fuselier, of the Animal Clinic of Los Alamos, will provide a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club (LADOC) building at 246 East Road in Los Alamos. 

Dr. Fuselier’s dog-bite awareness lecture promotes proper greeting of dogs and their owners, offering adults and children easy-to-remember steps to avoid becoming a dog-bite victim. Katie Watson of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) attended Kiwanis April 21 for a special event. Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser For Hawks FTC May 8

Friday is that day in the week where everyone is worn out and no one feels like cooking. Well, May 8 is a spaghetti dinner hosted by Hawks FTC, your Los Alamos robotics team.

Only $5 per plate, unless you bring a family of five, then it’s $20. Of course, children two and under eat free. Also, dinner comes with entertainment, a live demonstration by our award-winning robot, EPIC.

This fun and easy meal will be served 6-8 p.m. at the United Church, 2525 Canyon Road.
