Saturday, New Horizons Center opened its doors to the community and offered a sweet reward for those who accepted the invitation.

Ice cream sundaes were served at the pre-school and after-school care center next to the White Rock United Methodist Church. In addition to ice cream, children played on the center’s playground, got their faces painted and checked out the center’s different classroom materials.

Los Alamos Police Department is welcoming applications for the inaugural Los Alamos County Safety Town.

This free program will run 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday June 15-26 at Mountain Elementary School. This program is open to children entering Kindergarten in August.

The staff and students of Los Alamos Middle School love Pi … some more than others. The number π is a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, commonly approximated as 3.14159. More than 40 students were able to memorize the first 20 digits of pi, but one student, Tazler Smith was able to memorize the first 113 digits, displayed on a poster by the math department.
