This year, an informal group of educators put together a schedule of monthly experiences for families who home school their children.
This month it is Fuller Lodge Art Center’s turn to offer a field trip experience, and they are inviting, not only the students, but their parents as well. Children are invited to come to the Art Center with or without their parents 1-3 p.m. Thursday, April 16.

The Schmidts have been supportive neighbors in the community and dedicated advocates in the school district and will be missed as they move to the Farmington Municipal School District next month.

Northern New Mexico College Regents Approve Tuition Increase And Lock For Upcoming Year

Española – The Northern New Mexico College Board of Regents approved an 8.9 percent increase to tuition and general fees and introduced a tuition lock program for the 2015-16 academic year during its April 10 meeting.
The measure came as part of the Board’s efforts to address a $900,000 reduction in expenditures from the current fiscal year. Course and program specific fees were not impacted. Regents had not increased tuition since 2012.

Los Alamos Hilltalkers Bake Sale 3-6 P.M. Friday

The Los Alamos Hilltalkers Speech and Debate team will hold a bake sale fundraiser 3-6 p.m., Friday in the lobby of Los Alamos National Bank at 1200 Trinity Dr.
The high school speech and debate team will be accepting donations in exchange for homemade treats including brownies, cookies, breads and cakes. Baked goods will be available in small portions, as well as whole cakes and loaves.

Sunday evening, April 26, the Los Alamos Phi Beta Kappa Association will hold its 59th annual banquet to honor the top graduates of Los Alamos High School.
Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest undergraduate honor society in the United States and has about 230 members in Los Alamos County (1.3 percent of the county’s population). The first 50 registered participants will receive a Wild Day T-shirt.

Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Gene Schmidt is among five finalists for the Farmington Municipal School District superintendent position.
His name was announced at a March 12 School Board meeting at which the board narrowed its selection from 15 candidates.
The finalists were interviewed Tuesday by three committees comprised of administrators, school staff members and community members. The school board is scheduled to announce its final selection Thursday.

Geologist Patrick Rowe will lead another outing for PEEC, this time to look for fossils at Battleship Rock in the Jemez Mountains.
In this area Madera Limestone is prevalent, which has long been known for its wonderfully preserved marine fossils. The outing will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at the “old PEEC” at 3540 Orange St. It is free to attend, but registration is required.
