Mountain Elementary Classes Canceled For Monday

LAPS News:

Mountain Elementary School classes are canceled for Monday, March 30 due to plumbing issues.

Mountain students and staff will NOT have class on Monday, March 30. School officials apologize for the inconvenience and short notice. Mountain Principal Jennifer Guy is asking for help in spreading the word to friends and colleagues who have Mountain students.

All after school programs are canceled as well including the YMCA program. The bathrooms in the school are not operational. These should be repaired by Monday afternoon but the school is forced to cancel classes Monday.

Local RE/MAX Associate Broker, Teddie Sue Mooday, supports the Fourth Grade Foresters of New Mexico Tree Project; and nurtures a growing connection between replanting our forests and inspiring 4th graders to care about their community.

Fourth Grade Foresters was kicked off in 2006, and was created to revitalize the celebration of Arbor Day.

Thanks to 2,591 sponsors, more than 604,600 trees have been distributed to fourth graders in 6,800 schools across the country.

Kindergarten Roundup At All Los Alamos Elementary Schools April 1

Kindergarten Roundup is Wednesday, April 1 at all Los Alamos Elementary Schools. 

Children who turn five by Sept. 1, 2015 are eligible to be enrolled in kindergarten for the school year 2015/2016. The purpose of kindergarten roundup is to give parents and children an idea of what to expect for kindergarten.

Parents and students will get to meet kindergarten teachers, principals, school nurse, school counselor and other key school personnel. The kindergartners to be will visit a kindergarten classroom and see all the learning materials, toys and books.

Del Norte Credit Union Makes Award-Winning Financial Literacy Program Free For Local Classrooms

Local students are getting a free education in how to manage their money. Del Norte Credit Union is working with Banzai, a national award-winning financial literacy program, to make curriculum available to Los Alamos, Rio Arriba and Santa Fe county schools completely free.

LAHS Junior Coleman Kendrick Earns Best Of Show And Qualifies For Intel ISEF

Los Alamos High School Junior Coleman Kendrick earned Best of Show at the Northeastern New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair March 7 at New Mexico Highlands University.

The grand award also qualified Kendrick to compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF). The Intel International Fair is May 11-15 in Pittsburg, Pa. Los Alamos County Spelling Bee Champion Nora Cullinan tied for fourth place at the New Mexico State Spelling Bee this Saturday. This is the highest state finish for a Los Alamos speller in recent memory.

An eighth grade student at Los Alamos Middle School, Cullinan took second place in the Middle School Bee to advance to the County Bee, which she won with the word “hippopotamus.”
