Non-Essential County Government Facilities Will Open Today

COUNTY News:

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Los Alamos County, with temperatures expected to drop below freezing tonight.

In response to these conditions, Acting County Manager Linda Matteson has ordered a 10 a.m. start for all non-essential County government services and facilities Friday, Nov. 8.

Some variations to County services are as follows:

Bandelier To Waive Entrance Fees On Veterans Day Nov. 11

NPS News:

Monday, Nov. 11, 2024 the National Park Service invites the public to remember and honor veterans by waiving entrance fees on Veterans Day at all National Park Service sites.

Fee free days provide opportunities to explore new places or enjoy old favorites. Out of more than 400 national park sites, just over 100 charge an entrance fee.

Los Alamos Public Schools will be closed today, Nov. 8.

All classes and events are canceled.

LAPS is not able to safely navigate all bus routes yet or have sidewalks and parking lots fully cleared.

Due to the ongoing winter weather conditions, the UNM-Los Alamos campus will delay its opening until 10 a.m. for Friday, Nov. 8.

Building 1 and the basement of Building 2 are still without heat. Offices in those locations will remain working remotely.

Governor Declares Emergency In Response To Winter Storm

STATE News:

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has issued two statewide emergency declarations this week that unlocks $1.5 million in state funding to support state agencies responding to the winter storm blanketing much of New Mexico.

“This declaration gives the state more resources to continue supporting local responders as this major snowstorm persists,” Gov. Lujan Grisham said. “I thank every single responder who has been out in the cold since Wednesday clearing roads, escorting people to safety, and doing what needs to be done to support New Mexicans challenged by this storm.”  Read More

Los Alamos Public Schools On 2-Hour Delay Friday

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will be on a 2-hour delay, Friday, Nov. 8 for all PreK 4y-12th grades.

All schools will start 2 hours late and buses will arrive at stops 2 hours late. There will be no morning 3Y classes.

Afternoon 3Y will be on a regular schedule.

Los Alamos Acting County Manager Linda Matteson has ordered the closure of all non-essential County government facilities today, Nov. 7, due to inclement weather.

This includes the Municipal Building, Aquatic Center, libraries, Golf Pro Shop, Eco Station and White Rock Convenience Center, senior centers, Social Services, Nature Center, Teen Center, youth activity centers, History Museum, Fuller Lodge and Art Center, and visitor centers.

SFNF Collaborative Fuelwood Programs Underway

Starting today, two collaborative fuelwood programs will offer pickup and delivery of firewood to residents of Mora and San Miguel counties.
