Mama Goose, Ed & Gosling Spotted At Ashley Pond

Mama goose, Ed and their gosling were spotted today at Ashley Pond. The gosling first debuted as a tiny yellow fluff ball with its mama in early June. Mama goose with her pal Ed laid approximately 11 eggs in early May. Los Alamos County Senior Animal Control Officer Theresa Phelan kept a watchful eye on the new parents and their eggs and checked them daily. When she noticed four of the eggs had been eaten by some predator, a dog igloo was erected around the nest and when bits of lettuce were spotted near the shelter, a small construction fence was installed. SANTA FE — Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) fire managers were notified of a new wildfire start this morning, named the Alamo Springs Wildfire in the Jemez Ranger District, west of N.M. 4 and north of Rincon Fishing Site on Forest Service land.

The wildfire is less than an acre (.36) and, although cause is undetermined, lightning was detected in the area Wednesday night.

The current Los Alamos County Parks and Recreation policy for access to the lower part of Bayo and Pueblo canyons is too restrictive and discriminates against those of us who have limited abilities.
