County: Draft Climate Action Plan Goes To Council July 9

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s consultant, Cascadia Consulting Group, will present a draft Climate Action Plan (CAP) to the County Council at the upcoming council meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 in the Council Chambers.

Interested individuals are encouraged to attend this meeting in person at 1000 Central Ave., Council Chambers or via Zoom.

Following the presentation, the draft plan will be made available for public review and comment at https://losalamoscap.konveio.com from July 9 through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 9.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) released updates for the month of June 2024 on the Enforcement Watch.

The Enforcement Watch is a listing of all active and resolved enforcement cases. Active cases involve an alleged violation of a regulation, rule, permit, license, etc. Resolved cases are those that were adjudicated in court of law or administratively resolved.

Summer provides a good time for exploring and observing many aspects of the natural world around us. There are variations between the large and the small in geology. The canyons in the Pajarito Plateau provide parallel patterns on a large scale.

Picture 1 below is of Pueblo Canyon. It is about 3.5 miles from it upper to lower end of Los Alamos mesa. It is nearly a half mile wide at this lower end and 400 feet deep from mesa top to canyon bottom.

EPA And NMED Find Potential Air Quality Violations At 60% Of Permian Basin Oil And Gas Facilities Inspected

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED or the Department) Wednesday announced the results of a six-month inspection initiative done in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

It found 75 of the 124 facilities investigated had emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and could be subject to monetary penalties and other actions necessary to comply with requirements pursuant to federal Clean Air Act and state Air Quality Control Act.

Los Alamos County Code Compliance reminds residents of their reporting process with the summer season and upcoming Fourth of July celebrations. The Code Compliance team enforces the Building Code (Chapter 10), Development Code (Chapter 16), and Nuisance Code (Chapter 18), except where designated to the County Engineer or another official.
