Los Alamos Public Schools Is Closed … Happy Snow Day!

Los Alamos Public Schools has closed for today, Dec. 14.

Snow is predicted to continue to fall through the morning and we are not able to keep up with snow removal.

There will be no school, no sports and no activities. Classes will resume on Friday.

Los Alamos National Laboratory On Delayed Opening

LANL News:

Due to winter weather conditions for Thursday, Dec. 14, Los Alamos National Laboratory is on a delayed opening.

Those coming on-site should arrive between 10 a.m. and noon. Those who can telework should do so and charge regular time.

Los Alamos County On Delayed Opening Thursday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Manager Steven Lynne has ordered a delayed opening of 10 a.m. for all non-essential County government employees on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, due to hazardous weather conditions.

Some County services and facilities may be impacted:

Trees were covered with golden leaves in October. These have fallen and blown away with the arrival of November. A new view of the landscape has become visible. A variety of fields among the mountain sides of a volcano now may be easily seen in a forest of tree trunks. Some fields may be level without rocks or boulders on their surface. Others may have an occasional boulder sitting on them. Still other may boulders lying about regularly.

Temperatures took a plunge in Northern New Mexico over the weekend. Below zero readings were not uncommon and low temperatures in the teens the standard.

The frigid conditions led to the closure of several popular fishing locations.

Eagle Nest Lake and Fenton Lake were both closed to ice fishing due to unsafe ice conditions. Both of these lakes are in State Parks. Park personnel will monitor the ice thickness and when it is deemed safe they will open for ice fishing.

Today’s Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office Town Hall Moves To Virtual Platform Due Forecasted Inclement Weather

SANTA FE — The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office’s town hall meeting scheduled for today, Dec. 13 will now be virtual due to forecasted inclement weather.

Roaming Mexican Gray Wolf Asha Captured In New Mexico

SANTA FE — Government officials announced Monday that they have captured “Asha”, a young female Mexican wolf (#2754) who has twice this year journeyed into northern New Mexico.
