NNSA: United States, Japan And Republic Of Korea Sign Trilateral Framework Encouraging Scientific Cooperation In Critical And Emerging Technology

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, senior representatives of the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the Cabinet Office of Japan, and the Ministry of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea (ROK) signed a Trilateral Framework on cooperation in science and innovation.

Under the Framework, the participants will develop a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in early 2024 to facilitate scientific collaboration in critical and emerging technology areas.

LAPD Traffic Alert:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) reports black ice and multiple accidents near Mile Marker 8  on the Truck Route.

The truck route is down to one lane westbound.

An emergency repair to a water break is occurring near the intersection of Arizona Avenue and Woodland Road.

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) water crews are shutting down the stretch of Arizona between Woodland and 35th Street while they work on the break.

Caja Del Rio Coalition Asks For Extention On Public Comment Period For LANL Transmission Line To Avoid Pueblo Feast Days, Leadership Elections And Holidays

SANTA FE — Tuesday, the coalition to protect the Caja del Rio submitted a formal letter to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) requesting an extension to the public comment period for Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) Electrical Power Capacity Upgrade (EPCU) Project.

The project proposal would include construction of an approximate 14-mile, 115-Kilovolt power transmission line across a major part of the Caja del Rio plateau; a culturally and ecologically significant landscape in Northern New Mexico.

Abiquiu Lake To Host Annual Midwinter Eagle Count Jan. 6

ABIQUIU — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Abiquiu Lake will host their annual midwinter eagle survey, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 6.

The event is free and open to the public. Volunteers are asked to meet for registration beginning at 9 a.m. at the Abiquiu Lake Visitor Center. Hot coffee and snacks will be provided during registration.

A presentation will begin at 9:30 a.m. about eagles and other potential bird sightings. The count will start at 10 a.m. and run until noon.

Los Alamos County Trash And Recycling Services Announce Holiday Hours For Christmas And New Year’s

Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division will close early at noon Sunday, Dec. 24 and will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday Monday, Dec. 25.

This includes operations at the Eco Station and the Overlook Convenience Center, as well as residential and commercial trash and recycling.

Residents and businesses whose trash collection day falls on the observed Christmas holiday should place their materials out Wednesday, Dec. 27. The same schedule will apply to the New Year’s holiday weekend.

SANTA FE — New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands Stephanie Garcia Richard announced at a press conference Thursday that she is extending her ban on new oil, gas and mineral leasing on 72,776 acres of state lands near Chaco Culture National Historical Park through Dec. 31, 2043.

In one of her first acts as Land Commissioner in 2019, Commissioner Garcia Richard placed a mortarium on oil, gas and mineral leasing on state lands near Chaco, which was originally set to expire at the end of this year.

Pajarito Mountain opened Dec. 15 with over half its trails in operation, thanks to 15 plus inches of snow that fell in 24 hours.

The mountain operations crew worked tirelessly to get the most terrain going for opening day.
