TAOS — The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office has announced that Santa Cruz Lake is now open on Mondays for the fall season.
The new hours of operation for day-use are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday. The recreation site is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Santa Cruz Lake closes annually for the winter Dec.1 to March 1. The Overlook Campground will remain open 24/7 until the winter closure.
The Taos Field Office is focused on providing recreation and economic opportunities while protecting public lands through Leave No Trace principles.

SFNF Prepares For North Aztec Springs Prescribed Fire
SANTA FE — Fire crews are preparing for the 650-acre North Aztec Springs burn on the Espanola Ranger District. The district plans to start the burn sometime after the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, which ends Oct. 15.
Crews from the Santa Fe National Forest and the City of Santa Fe are currently working on containment lines in preparation for the burn.
The unit is located at the northwest corner of the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed adjacent to the communities of Hyde Park Estates, Paseo Segundo, High Summit, Los Cerros Colorados, Cerro Gordo and Upper Canyon. The unit is just north of the Read More

ALBUQUERQUE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham was joined by state leaders Friday to announce the creation of the New Mexico Climate Investment Center (NMCIC).

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMGF) has announced the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program 2023-2024 grant cycle awards.
Awardees include:
- $20,000 to Region II Emergency Medical Services, Inc. for developing a public-safety media campaign to reduce preventable pediatric traumatic brain injuries among young OHV operators in Doña Ana, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna and Sierra counties.
- $20,000 to South Central Mountain Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc. to construct two trailheads for access to motorized trails in the Hale Lake area of the Smokey
New Mexico Tourism Department To Celebrate 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse At Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

SANTA FE — Saturday, Oct. 14, New Mexico will become one of the world’s premier viewing locations for the annular solar eclipse.
To celebrate, the New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) will be giving away limited-edition sticker decals that depict the fortuitous overlap of the annular solar eclipse and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
The sticker decals will be available at the New Mexico True booth at Balloon Fiesta Park beginning this morning, Oct. 13. NMTD staff and volunteers will be distributing the sticker decals only during the morning sessions of the Albuquerque Read More
