AGU News:

A major concern for astronauts in space is exposure to radiation from galactic cosmic rays and solar energetic particles, which could potentially harm the central nervous system.

A new study finds that astronauts will be exposed to more radiation on the Moon’s surface and in deep space than they will be on Mars, creating a need for adequate shielding protection.

Wildfire Preparedness Is Year-Round: Prescribed Fire Smoke Is In The Air – Be Prepared

Prescribed burning is a fire management tool used to reduce fuel loads and decrease fire behavior in the case of a wildfire – among other benefits. Prescribed fire and associated smoke may lower the chances of a much longer smoke event from wildfire. Still, despite careful planning to conduct prescribed fire in ways that minimize harmful smoke exposure, smoke from prescribed burning does have an impact on air quality

SANTA FE — Fire management personnel continue to monitor the Golondrino prescribed fire, which remains within the project area.

All containment lines are holding with no visible smokes within approximately 200’ of lines. A few smokes are visible from Deadman Lookout due to some heavy fuels that continue to smolder. Those fuels are well within the interior of the fire perimeter.

The burn will be patrolled over the weekend by a small crew with a UTV pumper.

Fire crews completed 1,630 acres of hazardous fuels reduction for this prescribed fire project.
