SANTA FE — The New Mexico Environment Department petitioned the Environmental Improvement Board last week to adopt Advanced Clean Cars and Advanced Clean Truck rules to help ensure New Mexicans have access to zero-emission and low emission vehicles like electric cars and trucks and plug-in hybrids.

Bourque: North Mesa Roundabout Hazard
On May 24 I struck a boy on a bicycle at the roundabout in North Mesa. He was coming from Barranca. He received minor scrapes and is OK.
It was not possible to see this boy despite a witness claiming he had entered the intersection first. I first saw him only when he was darting in front of me, even though I had looked to the left more than once.
The reason is that my view of him was blocked by the roundabout itself. It has overgrown vegetation, large boulders, a mountain lion statue, and two evergreen trees whose branches reach the ground.

National Weather Service Albuquerque To Transition To NWS Chat 2.0 Platform On Slack Mid To Late July

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque (NWS) announces the agency-wide transition to a new NWS Chat platform on Slack.
The agency is moving away from NWS Chat Live web interface or chat client based platform to using the Slack platform to power NWS Chat 2.0.
When is this all happening? The goal is to have all state, media, county/city partners and other partners up to speed by the middle/end of July.
Aug. 1 will be the official transition to NWS Chat 2.0 on Slack. The legacy NWS Chat 1.0 system will be shut off July 31. There will not be a transition period in August where both platforms Read More
Gov. Lujan Grisham Requests Support From U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers In Recovery Efforts Across Mora County
SANTA FE — Gov. Michele Lujan Grisham sent a letter this week to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requesting advanced protective measures to limit flooding off the Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon burn scar.
This request from Gov. Lujan Grisham allows the Army Corps to design, engineer and construct barriers to protect public infrastructure including roads, bridges and buildings in Mora County.

SFNF: Hazard Tree Removal Provides Free Fuelwood

SANTA FE — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and the New Mexico Energy Minerals and Natural Resources Forestry Division have teamed up to remove hazard trees from the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon burn scar area in the Santa Fe National Forest. These dead and down trees are now available as free fuelwood for public collection with permit.

Forest Service Begins Nacimiento Mine Cleanup Near Cuba

SANTA FE — The Forest Service will begin an environmental cleanup of the South Ore Pile and Heap Leach Pile at the Nacimiento Mine located on the Cuba Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest.
The project site is approximately 3.5 miles southeast of Cuba, New Mexico adjacent to State Highway 126. The Nacimiento Mine is an abandoned copper mine that operated from 1970 through 1975. In 1985 the site was developed for in-situ mining which resulted in the contamination of the underlying aquifer.
