Los Alamos Neighborhood Awakens To Bears In Tree
Three bears are spotted hanging out this morning in a tree behind a Woodland Road in Los Alamos. The two young bears climbed to the top and seemed to be content to stay there, while the agitated mother continued her quest to reach them. Four hours later the bears remain in the tree. According to the Los Alamos Police Department, New Mexico Game & Fish Department officials were notified but said to just leave the bears alone. A NMG&F spokesperson said community members should call 888.248.6866 during regular business hours or LAPD Dispatch at 505.662.8222 after hours. Photo by Maire Read More

This Western Tanager was spotted Sunday in the backyard of a residence near Canyon Glen Road in Los Alamos. According to allaboutbirds.org, these birds live in open woods all over the west, particularly among evergreens, where they often stay hidden in the canopy. Nevertheless, they’re a quintessential woodland denizen in summertime, where they fill the woods with their short, burry song and low, chuckling call notes. This program began back in 2014 when trout normally raised and stocked at the Red River Fish Hatchery for stocking in the Shuree Ponds on the Valle Vidal had to be planted elsewhere because drought had degraded the water quality at the Shuree Ponds to a point where trout Read More
