  • Start Date: May 23
  • Cause: Lightning
  • Size: 15 acres

Location: Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. Forest Road 289 near Bandelier Park.

Weather: Mostly sunny/winds 3-7, gusts to 10 mph.

Beginning in July, the Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division is upgrading its quarterly brush program with a new system.

 

Not only is this a new program for the County, but also for the state. Los Alamos is the first community in New Mexico to implement a curbside yard trimming roll cart collection program.

SANTA FE The Bureau of Land Management is announcing the update of its free mobile maps of New Mexico.
 
These maps are designed for big-game hunting and recreational use, and were built through a partnership with New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.

BLM Announces Temporary Closure Of La Junta Trail

TAOS The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office has temporarily closed the La Junta Trail at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area to the public. The closure is required to address potential safety concerns on the trail.
 
The closure will remain in effect until further notice.
 
La Junta Point Overlook and Campground will remain open during this time. Visitors will be able to access the River Trail and the lower parts of the canyon from the Little Arsenic Springs Trail. The BLM asks the public to respect the closure of the trail for their safety.

Now that we have finally received rain, the fishing should get even better in Northern New Mexico.
 
The State Game and Fish Department continues to stock thousands of rainbow trout, including some over 15 inches in size. Streamflows did not rise much, but with the Memorial Day weekend coming up, any moisture that could help ease the extremely dry conditions in our forests was most welcome.
