Community Invited To ‘Dark Night’ At Overlook Park April 26

COUNTY News:

The Pajarito Astronomers Club is hosting County-sponsored “Dark Night” observing sessions through September at Overlook Park in White Rock.

These sessions are free and open to the public and occur once a month (on a Saturday evening near a new moon) when Los Alamos County turns off all the athletic field lights at the park.

A typical session will have 15-50 people looking through 4-6 telescopes, viewing galaxies, planets, star clusters, the moon and much more. Weather permitting, observing sessions start at sunset and end before midnight.

  • Tonight – A 50 percent chance of rain, mainly after 3 a.m. and mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Northwest wind 5-10 mph becoming southeast after midnight. New precipitation amounts of less than a 10th of an inch possible.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The bicameral Continental Divide Trail Completion Act was reintroduced last week, sponsored by Sens. Martin Heinrich (NM) and Steve Daines (MT) and Reps. Joe Neguse (CO) and Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM). The bill directs the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior to prioritize completion of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT) within ten years of enactment.

Daily Postcard: Plateau Fence Lizard Basks In Sunshine

Daily Postcard: A plateau fence lizard, also known as a Pajarito fence lizard, basks in the sun recently from the canyon side of the ‘balcony’ at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s (PEEC), Los Alamos Nature Center on Canyon Road. According to PEEC, these lizards live in Northern New Mexico and are especially fond of pine trees. They are not venomous or poisonous. They are active during the day, forage twice daily, and hibernate from November to April. The characteristic blue throat patch is visible on this male, but the blue on its belly is hidden. County Eco Station Experiencing Phone And Internet Outage – Trash Pickup Services Not Affected

COUNTY News: 

Los Alamos County’s Eco Station at 3701 East Jemez Road, is experiencing a temporary outage of phone and internet services. Staff are working with service providers to restore connectivity as soon as possible.

According to the Environmental Services staff, this outage will not impact services offered at the Eco Station or regularly scheduled refuse collection.
