LAPD Reminds Commuters Of Pilgrimage Into Chimayó

This Friday, April 18, thousands of participants from our community and surrounding areas will take part in the annual pilgrimage to El Santuario de Chimayó.

This sacred tradition brings a significant increase in pedestrian activity along highways not typically frequented by foot traffic, including N.M. 502, N.M. 501, U.S. 84/285 and N.M. 76.

County Shares Golf Course Review Update For 2025 Season

Los Alamos County staff have been monitoring the golf course and as published, performed a review of the course on April 14, to provide better clarity and to ensure optimal conditions for play.

Bandelier’s Summer Shuttle Service Begins May 14, 2025

NPS News:

Bandelier National Monument is beginning its free summer shuttle service May 14, 2025 to Frijoles Canyon. The shuttle, provided by Atomic City Transit, boards at the Frey Trail Parking Lot in the park and starting at 10 a.m. runs every 10 minutes.

Unlike previous years, the shuttle is not mandatory unless the parking lots in the canyon are filled up. Also, there will be no shuttle service to the White Rock Visitor Center. Taos Regional Landfill Board Secures $8M In State Funding For Taos ‘Clean Spaces, Strong Communities’ Plan

The Taos Regional Landfill Board announced today that it has been awarded $8 million from the State of New Mexico’s capital outlay funding to support the Taos Clean Spaces, Strong Communities plan.

This funding is the result of a collaborative, region-wide public-private effort aimed at implementing and operating a comprehensive waste diversion and trash reduction program to improve cleanliness, increase environmental sustainability, and beautify the Taos region. County DPU Seeks Focus Group Volunteers

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU), in partnership with the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University, is seeking volunteers for two focus groups to discuss the pathway to zero natural gas usage.

The groups will meet noon-1 p.m. over Zoom on April 24, May 1 and May 8.  Participants must be natural gas customers of DPU.

This last week saw unseasonably warm temperatures with several cities throughout the state setting records for daily high temperatures, including Santa Fe and Albuquerque. It was a toasty 97 degrees in Roswell.

Streamflows around the state showed some dramatic increases due to melting snow.

However, streamflow in the Rio Grande is low. The streamflow at Cerro near the Colorado border was just 117 cubic-feet-per second. This indicates that they are already irrigating crops in Colorado’s San Luis Valley.

Camping At Camp May Limited During The 2025 Season

Camp May will be limited to campground use 12 p.m., Friday through Saturday nights, vacating by 12 p.m., Sunday. This season will be on a first-come first-served basis due to the construction of a potable water line. The Fire Protection Project (JMFPP) plans call for the construction of a potable water pipeline up to the ski hill, as well as improved electric and fiber optic utilities along Camp May Road at Pajarito Mountain. Additional Curbside Brush Collection Suspended April 14-18

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Environmental Services regrets to inform residents that curbside brush collection services will not be available April 14-18. The side-load collection equipment is currently out of service and awaiting the necessary parts for repair.

Curbside brush collection is expected to resume its regular schedule next week, April 21.
