New Mexico Attorney General Secures Guilty Plea Against Counselor Accused Of Defrauding State Medicaid Program

LAS CRUCES — Attorney General Hector Balderas announced Wednesday that Cathy Chidester, who operated Drop In Counseling in Las Cruces, pled guilty to Medicaid Fraud, Obstruction of Investigation, and Identity Theft.   

Chidester was accused of fraudulently billing New Mexico’s Medicaid program for children’s counseling, when in fact, public school records showed that the children were in class attending school during the alleged counseling sessions.

New Classes Underway At Betty Ehart Senior Center

This week, new classes start at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, some in-person and some you can do, right in your own home. Next month additional classes will hopefully be added at the White Rock Senior Center.

Members 60 and over are welcome to use either center at no cost. Members 50-59 pay an annual $20 membership.

Moderna Boosters At Two Local Vaccine Clinics Sunday

Los Alamos County, the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) and Trinity Urgent Care are administering the Moderna booster Sunday, Nov. 14 for select populations who have received their primary series (first two doses of Moderna or Pfizer) or to anyone 18 years or older who received the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The two vaccine clinics administering Moderna boosters include:

  • A walk-in clinic in Los Alamos; and
  • A drive-through clinic in White Rock.

New Mexico State Auditor Refers Pharmacy Benefit Managers Examination To Attorney General’s Office

ALBUQUERQUE — In early 2020, State Auditor Brian S. Colón initiated an investigation of the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) that have provided services to the five New Mexico Medicaid Plans and the PBM for the State Group Benefit Plan for public employees and has now referred aspects of the examination to Attorney General Balderas.

For more than a decade, PBMs have had opportunities to develop abusive billing practices.

These practices may have benefited the PBMs but not the State clients they serve and the network of pharmacies that the PBMs use.
