Courtesy/LAC

COUNTY News:

Now that the Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) are back in session and construction is underway on Canyon Road, Los Alamos County officials suggest that commuters consider taking advantage of other options to get to and from work or school.

Carpooling, riding the Atomic City Transit, biking, or walking even just one day a week reduces the number of cars on the road during peak hours which can alleviate traffic congestion. Commuters who drive less save money, improve the environment and make new friends. Additionally, those who choose to bike or walk can expect better Read More

Stradling: Punitive Water Rates! Thinking Of The Children

By GARY STRADLING
Republican Candidate
Los Alamos County Council

I appreciate my old friend David Israelevitz’s attempt to legitimize the County’s punitive water rates (Link) in quantitative terms that our math-minded residents can appreciate.

However, it does not take a rocket scientist to see through his argument. Most of us understand rate increases of 6.3 percent and 27.1 percent per gallon for higher usage levels and find them to be outrageous.

Any mom or dad in our community would rightly be up in arms if Smiths grocery store increased prices by 27 percent depending on whether we were Read More

Fr. Glenn: Being Appreciative

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

A favorite YouTube channel that I’ve stumbled across recently is “Tribal People Try”, in which several persons apparently from the Middle East or perhaps more easterly sample various western foods. Most of the foods have a common familiarity for most Americans in particular (biscuits and gravy, apple cobbler, various snack foods, etc.), surprising the panel participants by the taste and quality, they often comment on the expertise of the chef for even what we might consider the simplest of foods.

Those videos get one thinking about what blessings we have in our lives. That Read More

“All Shall be well…”

Will it really? The four clergy women you see at the top of this column hear that question a lot and truth be told, we wonder that often for ourselves.

Weekly Fishing Report: Aug. 10, 2022

By GEORGE MORSE

Los Alamos Daily Post

August can be a very busy month. Families scramble to prepare for school. Many of them are also trying to put together one last family fishing and camping trip before the kids return to school.

Gardeners are starting to reap a bounty of produce, in particular crops like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and, of course, green chile. The pungent smell of roasting green chiles fills the air.

If you are one of those who like to gather wild mushrooms, this year’s strong monsoon season has been a blessing. The moisture has led to a literal explosion of Read More
